COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (May 23rd 2022) – Area9 Lyceum, a developer of world-class adaptive learning technology, is pleased to announce that its NurseED education initiative will be featured as part of the “Caring with Courage: The Extraordinary Lives of Nurses” digital campaign presented by the International Council of Nurses.

Launched in March 2020, and running through February 2024, the NurseEd initiative aims to improve nursing education and better prepare these professionals for 21st century care in Denmark.

The four-year NurseEd program is being funded by a €2 million grant from the Danish Innovation Fund. It is a collaboration between Area9 and University College Absalon (UCA) in Denmark. Also involved are the Danish Technical University (DTU) and several Danish municipalities, including Holbæk. Moving forward, Area9 Lyceum will continue to work closely with UCA and DTU to provide access to 21st century education to nursing students.

Under this partnership, the nursing curriculum in core sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and medication calculation) are being offered via the Area9 Rhapsode™ adaptive learning platform. This technology allows a personalized learning approach, to build competence and confidence as they proceed through nursing education.

By integrating adaptive learning into the curriculum, NurseED seeks to ensure more efficient individualised learning and better knowledge retention, as well as additional support for low-performing students to reduce the dropout rate. This not only helps to build the future nursing workforce, but it also seeks to improve performance by those nurses especially in areas such as problem solving and clinical decision-making.

“Currently, Denmark, like many countries, faces a nursing shortage. Addressing the need for better preparation helps support these invaluable professionals who are making a real difference in the lives of patients and their families every day,” said Ulrik Juul Christensen, M.D., Executive Chairman of Area9 Lyceum.

By 2023, NurseED is expected to produce improved final exam results for core science subjects, increased student satisfaction, a larger number of graduates, and greater employer satisfaction with graduates’ skills. The long-term goal is for a national rollout of NurseED to improve the preparation of the nursing workforce in Denmark, while also promoting greater job satisfaction.

“By showcasing NurseED in the ‘Caring with Courage’ campaign, we are saluting the dedication of students and nursing professionals everywhere, who are determined to take on the challenges of building their knowledge and mastering skills that will be crucial to delivering 21st century care,” Christensen added.

The Caring with Courage campaign will be published on www.caringwithcourage.com.
